FlightMate is built on trust. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it. We keep it plain English — no legal maze.
What Information We Collect
When you create a FlightMate account we collect:
• Account information — your email address and password (or Google OAuth credentials).
• Profile data — your name, age, location, bio, handicap, GHIN number, home course, playing preferences, gambling styles, and music preferences.
• Photos — images you upload to your profile, stored securely in our cloud storage.
• Location data — your city or general location to help surface nearby golfers. We do not track your real-time GPS location continuously.
• Usage data — how you interact with the app (swipes, matches, messages) to improve our matching algorithm.
• Communications — messages you exchange with other FlightMate members inside the app.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
• Power the matching algorithm — your profile data is used to calculate compatibility scores with other golfers.
• Show you relevant golfers — location and preference data helps us surface the most relevant playing partners near you.
• Enable messaging — your communications are stored to deliver real-time chat between matched users.
• Send notifications — we may email you when you receive a new match or message, and for important account updates.
• Improve the service — aggregated, anonymized usage data helps us understand what features work and what to build next.
• Prevent abuse — we use account and activity data to detect fake profiles, spam, and policy violations.
What We Share
We do not sell your personal data. Period.
• Other FlightMate members — your profile information (name, photos, bio, golf stats, preferences) is visible to other logged-in FlightMate users for matching purposes.
• Service providers — we use Supabase for database and authentication, and Resend for email delivery. These providers process your data only as needed to deliver the service and are bound by strict data processing agreements.
• Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of FlightMate users.
• Business transfers — in the event of a merger or acquisition, user data may transfer to the new owner, who will be bound by this policy.
Data Storage
Your data is stored on Supabase infrastructure hosted on AWS in the United States. We apply industry-standard security measures including:
• Encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit.
• Encrypted storage for photos and sensitive profile data.
• Row-level security policies so users can only access data they are authorized to see.
• Regular security reviews of our database access policies.
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile, photos, and messages will be permanently deleted within 30 days.
Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
• Access — you can view all the information on your profile at any time from the app.
• Edit — you can update your profile information at any time from Profile → Edit.
• Delete account — you can delete your account from the app settings. This permanently removes your profile, photos, and messages.
• Data export — you may request a copy of your personal data by emailing hello@flightmate.golf.
• Opt out of emails — you can unsubscribe from non-essential emails using the link in any email we send.
If you are in the EU or California, you have additional rights under GDPR and CCPA respectively. Contact us at hello@flightmate.golf to exercise these rights.
